  • Provision of a telephone Drug and Poison Information consultation service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Assist with the diagnosis and treatment of unknown or suspected poisonings.

  • Provide recommendations for optimal patient management.

  • Develop public and professional educational programs and materials on toxic exposures.

  • Organize poison prevention activities, including public lectures and an annual public poison prevention campaign to educate the public on poisons prevention & first aid for poisonings.

  • Advice to industries on occupational toxic exposures.

  • Courses on toxicology and medical management of hazardous materials exposures.

  • Prepare literature reviews and drug evaluations to support the hospital's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees in formulary selection and drug use evaluation.

  • Publication of bulletins to update and educate healthcare professionals.

  • Collect and disseminate accurate relevant statistics on drugs and poisoning. This will be used to identify trends in poisoning and areas in which preventative measures need to be taken, or additional educational activity is required.
